KEYWORDS : Dysmenorrhea, Puberty

Science

Days are filled with gladness, nights are filled with songs, and the world grows brighter as we drive along the highway of adolescence. More than halfway through the thirteenth street and just about a quarter mile to the fourteenth, it was around  late  morning hours of a Saturday, and it is a custom in my family for kids  to dust blinds, windows, and furniture tops, vacuum carpets and mop floors, prune the garden and water the beautiful purple lily flowers on the front yard of our bungalow home. I was about to resume pruning the garden after a short recess with chips and chapman, by the way I love to work on the garden under the morning sun which I learnt is a vital source of vitaminD. Just as I got off sitting on the front porch, I was frightened by the accidental discharge from the larynx of my brother who yelled “red zone”. My blue shorts were stamped in red and that was the beginning of my monthly contract with the pharmacy for pain relief..

Puberty for a girl can bring as much stress as the pride it brings. The elation of a gently bulging chest and curvy hips on a robust looking body is sometimes easily dampened by  unwarranted male gestures and routine menstrual cycle which  sets the edge for more self consciousness Oh! My manners, excuse my excitement to acquaint you with my story before my name, I am Sissy, Friends call me Sassy Sissy

Sissy is pretty, loving, and full of life, she is a combination of what you'd call beauty and brains, or better still ‘sassy” as fondly called by her besties. In middle school, she is one of the few girls who signed up for STEM classes. She is a force to reckon with by both boys and girls of the city High School. Her brilliance and beauty caught the eye of the charming boys who competed for her expensive attention and luxurious smile. Beneath the pretty demeanor also is a bold, assertive, and daring persona who rises to challenges and is not intimidated by popular opinion of the male majority but was however constantly defeated by the scourging effect of dysmenorrhea.
